Abstract:

This "Check List of the Diptera of Germany" provides an up-to-date enumeration of all the two-winged flies that have been recorded from Germany. It has not previously been possible to produce a list of all the indigenous German species of this ecologically, economically and medically important order of insects because of the lack of specialists, the widely scattered literature and the different levels of knowledge among the individual families. A total of 62 specialists have contributed to the present volume, which lists 9183 species in 117 families. In addition to the valid name for each of the taxonomic categories, the most important synonyms are also included so that the non-specialist can easily locate each species. An introduction and a systematic overview are followed by the main section in which the families are listed alphabetically within the three traditional suborders of Nematocera, Brachycera-Orthorrhapha and Brachycera-Cyclorrhapha. A comprehensive index in which some 15000 names are included is a further user-friendly feature of the volume. This check list will be of assistance to all biologists and to those interested in biology, especially active entomologists, who are working in the field of ecology and in particular with faunistics and environmental research as well as in other fields of pure or applied zoology, not just for its up-to-date inventory of the species but also for the taxonomic and nomenclatural information and changes that are included. The "Check List of the Diptera of Germany" is the second volume in the project "Entomofauna Germanica", which was founded with the aim of covering all indigenous insect species and thus enabling authoritative statements to be made on the composition and diversity of these organisms in Germany.

Zusammenfassung:

Die vorliegende "Checkliste der Dipteren Deutschlands" stellt eine Bestandsaufnahme aller in Deutschland bisher nachgewiesenen Zweiflügler (Mücken und Fliegen) dar. Bislang konnte ein Verzeichnis aller einheimischen Arten aus dieser ökologisch, wirtschaftlich und medizinisch wichtigen Insektenordnung wegen fehlender Spezialisten, der weit verstreuten Literatur und des unterschiedlichen Bearbeitungsstandes der einzelnen Dipterenfamilien nicht vorgelegt werden. Insgesamt 62 Spezialisten konnten in diesem Band nunmehr 9183 Arten aus 117 Familien auflisten. Neben den gültigen Namen der verschiedenen taxonomischen Kategorien werden auch die wichtigsten Synonyme genannt, so daß auch Nichtspezialisten leicht die betreffende Art finden können. Folgend auf die Einführung und systematische Übersicht sind die Familien innerhalb der drei traditionellen Unterordnungen (Nematocera, Brachycera-Orthorrhapha, Brachycera-Cyclorrhapha) alphabetisch angeordnet. Unterstützt wird die Handhabbarkeit dieses Buches durch ein umfassendes Register, das ca. 15000 Namen umfaßt. Für alle Biologen und biologisch Interessierte - insbesondere entomologisch Tätige, die auf dem Gebiet der Ökologie, speziell der Faunistik und Umweltforschung, sowie auch anderen angewandten und klassischen zoologischen Disziplinen arbeiten - kann die Checkliste aufgrund des gegebenen aktuellen Artinventars sowie der eingearbeiteten taxonomischen und nomenklatorischen Korrekturen und Informationen sehr hilfreich sein.
Die "Checkliste der Dipteren Deutschlands" reiht sich zugleich als zweiter Band in das Projekt "Entomofauna Germanica" ein, das mit der Zielstellung begründet wurde, alle einheimischen Insektenarten zu erfassen und somit fundierte Aussagen zu Bestand und Vielfalt dieser Organismen in Deutschland zu ermöglichen.
