Revision of the Neotropical Neurigoninae (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) I: Coeloglutus Aldrich, Neotonnoiria Robinson, and Paracoeloglutus gen. nov., with the definition the tribe Coeloglutini stat. nov.. - [Revision der neotropischen Neurigoninae (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) I: Coeloglutus Aldrich, Neotonnoiria Robinson und Paracoeloglutus gen. nov., mit der Definition der Tribus Coeloglutini stat. nov..]

Abstract:

The Neotropical species of the tribe Coeloglutini Negrobov stat. nov., comprising the genera Coeloglutus Aldrich, Neotonnoiria Robinson and Paracoeloglutus gen. nov. (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) are revised. Diagnoses and a key to the genera are given. The species Coeloglutus concavus Aldrich and Neotonnoiria maculipennis (Van Duzee) comb. nov. are redescribed, and Paracoeloglutus chilensis spec. nov. is described as new. The following species are placed in synonymy: Coeloglutus sinuatus (Parent) syn. nov. and Coeloglutus bicoloripes Van Duzee syn. nov. with Coeloglutus concavus Aldrich; Neotonnoiria angustifacies (Parent) syn. nov. with Neotonnoiria maculipennis (Van Duzee). A phylogenetic analysis of the included genera and species is given. The tribe Coeloglutini forms a distinct monophyletic group. The new genus Paracoeloglutus is probably the most ancestral clade of the tribe.

Abstract:

Three species of the Hercostomus complex with hypopygium on a long stalk are described. Hercostomus flavicans spec. nov. is provisionally placed in the genus Hercostomus. Steleopyga gen. nov. is erected for Steleopyga dactylocera spec. nov. from South Thailand (type species) and Steleopyga zygolipes spec. nov. from the Philippines. The genus is based mainly on the peculiar male genitalia.

Abstract:

On the basis of extensive material from the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, and several further collections, the species of Ptecticus occurring in Sri Lanka are revised. Three species occur in Sri Lanka: Ptecticus pseudohistrio spec. nov. from the P. histrio species group is described as new; P. srilankai nom. nov. is a replacement name for the preoccupied name P. ceylonicus Rozkošný & Hauser, 1998; and P. cingulatus Loew, 1855, widespread in the Oriental region, is confirmed as common in Sri Lanka. Morphological variation in P. cingulatus Loew and P. srilankai nom. nov. is briefly discussed and a key to the females of the P. histrio group is given.

Abstract:

Phoridae (scuttle flies) were sampled in the forest reserve Sihlwald (Kt. Zurich, Switzerland) with emergence traps installed over lying beech trunks or branches and with window traps. A total of 4228 specimens was analysed. 49 species were identified, one of which was new to science, and fifteen species were recorded for the first time in Switzerland. August 1878 in Elberfeld near Wuppertal, he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus at the age of 15. After his education he first worked as a teacher and then studied biology in Bonn and Freiburg. His doctoral thesis (1929) was a revision of the Phoridae. Chyromyidae (Diptera, Schizophora) of the Canary Islands and Madeira, with descriptions of new species. - [Chyromyidae (Diptera, Schizophora) der Kanarischen Inseln und Madeira mit Beschreibungen neuer Arten.]

Abstract:

This article brings together all that is known about the family Chyromyidae on the Canary Islands and Madeira. Seventeen species are currently known from these islands. Five new species are described: Chyromya intermedia spec. nov., Gymnochiromyia fulvipyga spec. nov., Aphaniosoma ater spec. nov., A. baezi spec. nov. and A. pseudorufum spec. nov. A sixth species, though apparently new, is not described because of inadequate material. The distribution of species of this family on the eight islands reveals that ten are known from Fuerteventura and nine from Tenerife, but only one species from La Gomera and Hierro. A single species, A. rufum Frey, 1935 is found on as many as five of the islands.
